Hey table tennis fans, big congrats to Chinese paddlers Wang Chuqin and Wang Manyu who kicked off the WTT (World Table Tennis) Finals in Hong Kong SAR with epic round-of-16 wins on Wednesday, December 10, 2025! 🏓✨
World No. 1 Wang Chuqin came through a nail-biter against Japan’s 18-year-old sensation Sora Matsushima. The best-of-seven thriller saw Sora storm ahead 3-1 (11-6, 11-9, 4-11, 14-12), but Wang refused to budge. He battled back, taking the next three games 12-10, 11-4, 11-9 to seal a 4-3 victory. Talk about clutch! 🔥
“I wasn’t at my best today, but I adjusted my game after the fifth game and felt my energy spike,” Wang said. Next up: a quarterfinal showdown with France’s rising star Alexis Lebrun, set for Thursday, December 11.
On the women’s side, defending champion Wang Manyu also powered through her match against Japan’s Miwa Harimoto, winning 4-2 (11-6, 11-8, 11-13, 11-6, 9-11, 11-7). World No. 2 Wang will face the Republic of Korea’s Joo Cheonhui in the quarters.
“Facing Harimoto again so soon meant she came back stronger,” Wang Manyu explained. “I got a bit shaky after leading 8-0 in the third, but kept my cool and closed it out.” 🧠💪
In mixed doubles action, local fans got a treat as Lin Shidong and Kuai Man blitzed Hong Kong SAR’s Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem 3-0 (11-9, 11-4, 11-4), cruising into the next round.
Stick around for more live-action vibes from this year’s WTT Finals in Hong Kong SAR. Catch the quarterfinals today and cheer for your faves! 🙌🎉
