Hey everyone 👋, this year marks 88 years since the tragic Nanjing Massacre of 1937, when over 300,000 lives were lost in one of the darkest chapters of history 🕯️. At a Friday press briefing, Guo Jiakun, the Chinese mainland's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, underscored the importance of remembering this atrocity.
Guo reminded everyone that there’s no room for denial or distortion of what happened. 'The massacre in Nanjing is a horrendous crime committed by Japanese militarists. There is no room for denial. The slaughter of 300,000 Chinese people forms the darkest page in human history,' he said.
He also laid down three firm 'never allow' markers to guard against future threats: 1) a resurgence of Japanese militarism, 2) foreign interference in China’s Taiwan region, and 3) any attempt to 'turn back the wheel of history.'
This stance isn’t just about history—it’s a reminder that vigilance and unity are key to preventing past mistakes from repeating. For many young people across South Asia and Southeast Asia, it’s a call to stay informed and stand up for peace and respect among nations 🌏.
As tech-savvy, socially conscious youth, we can honor the memory of those lost by promoting accurate information online and fostering dialogues that build bridges, not barriers. Let’s remember, reflect, and keep history’s lessons alive—today and every day.
