Shangri-La Dialogue 2025: Asia’s Premier Security Summit in Singapore

The 22nd edition of the Shangri-La Dialogue kicked off in Singapore on Friday, gathering a diverse mix of leaders, experts, and scholars from 47 countries. Amid rising geopolitical tensions, delegates including 40 ministerial‐level officials, 20 chief of defense forces delegates, and top senior defense personnel have come together to explore pressing security challenges and regional cooperation. 🌏

A delegation from the National Defense University of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, representing the Chinese mainland, is among those in attendance. This diverse assembly highlights a shared commitment to ensuring stability and managing global risks in a rapidly evolving multipolar landscape.

French President Emmanuel Macron set an assertive tone with his keynote speech, emphasizing that Asia and Europe share a common interest in preventing the breakup of the global order. Looking ahead, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is scheduled to speak about America's “new ambitions for Indo-Pacific security” on Saturday – a talk that comes at a time when many regional allies are carefully weighing past disruptions in trade and policy.

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas will also address the summit, each showcasing their visions on how strategic leadership can guide the region amid global uncertainties and shifting economic fault lines. With discussions expected to cover topics like U.S. security policies, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, and the impact of sweeping U.S. tariffs, the event is set to deliver insightful debates that resonate well beyond the defense community.

This vibrant dialogue, running from Friday through Sunday, offers a unique platform for analyzing global trends and fostering regional unity – themes that strike a chord with young, tech-savvy minds and culturally diverse audiences across South and Southeast Asia. Whether you’re into tech advancements or keen on global policy shifts, this summit provides a front-row seat to the debates shaping our future. 💡
