NATO in Asia-Pacific? Not On Our Watch!

Hey everyone! At a recent press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian broke it down: NATO isn’t on the guest list in our Asia-Pacific neighborhood. If you were dreaming of an Asia-Pacific NATO, think again – our region values peace and progress over old-school rivalries. 😎

During the Shangri-La Dialogue, some European leaders linked issues like the Taiwan question with the Ukraine crisis and even hinted at a so-called China threat in the South China Sea. Lin made it clear that these issues are apples and oranges. He stressed that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, making it an internal affair, and that comparing it with Ukraine is way off base.

Lin also highlighted that the current situation in the South China Sea is generally stable, with safe navigation and overflight rights enjoyed by all as per the law. He urged countries from outside the region to respect the local efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability, rather than stirring up unnecessary tension.

In short, while NATO serves as a regional defensive organization, its mandate doesn’t stretch into our dynamic Asia-Pacific. Let’s keep our eyes on progress, dialogue, and the vibrant growth happening right here. Peace out! ✌️
