In a heart-wrenching incident, an Air India Dreamliner crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad, leaving at least 265 fatalities and marking the worst aviation disaster in a decade.
The Boeing 787-8, bound for Gatwick Airport in London, had 242 people on board when it crashed into a medical college hostel during lunch hour. Tragically, the crash also struck people on the ground.
Amid the devastation, one passenger – a British national of Indian origin – emerged as the sole known survivor and is now receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Eyewitnesses recalled hearing a loud noise moments after take-off before chaos erupted, with debris scattered everywhere. Among the victims was former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, a loss that has deeply affected the community.
