Cambodia, Thailand Conclude Open, Positive Border Talks

In a refreshing display of collaboration, Cambodian and Thai officials wrapped up a two-day Joint Boundary Commission meeting in Phnom Penh. Co-chaired by Cambodian Minister Lam Chea and Thai Foreign Ministry advisor Prasas Prasasvinitchai, both sides described the discussions as "open and positive," emphasizing teamwork and mutual understanding 🤝.

The talks led to an agreement to deploy a joint survey team to examine and demarcate border markers on the ground—an important step toward easing border tensions. However, the meeting did not address four disputed border areas, with Cambodia having submitted an official letter to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for resolution. 😮

Thai spokesperson Nikorndej Balankura reiterated that Thailand prefers to resolve issues through established bilateral channels, underscoring the value of ongoing diplomatic dialogue. With Thailand set to host the next Special Joint Boundary Commission meeting in September, the commitment to continued engagement shines through.

This development is a hopeful sign for better cross-border relations, resonating with a region that values peace, cooperation, and smart diplomacy in today’s interconnected world.
