Chinese Trio Smash Into WTT Europe Round of 16

🏓 Chinese shooting stars Sun Yingsha, Chen Xingtong and Chen Yi powered their way into the women’s singles Round of 16 at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Europe Smash in Malmo, Sweden, on Wednesday.

Top seed Sun Yingsha continued her dominance over French veteran Jia Nan Yuan, winning 3-1. After dropping the second game 11-6, she regrouped with quick coaching tips and stormed back to seal it with 11-2, 11-5 and 11-6. Next up: Japan’s 13th seed Hina Hayata.

Chen Xingtong battled back from a surprise 11-8 opening loss to France’s 21-year-old Prithika Pavade, winning the next three games and turning a 10-8 deficit into a 3-1 victory with four straight points in game four. She’ll meet Germany’s Sabine Winter in the round of 16.

Chen Yi stayed flawless with a 3-0 win over South Korea’s Joo Cheon-hui—each game was tight, but Chen’s clutch play on key points sealed her spot in the last 16 against Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi.

In women’s doubles, Sun Yingsha teamed up with Wang Manyu to breeze past Germany’s Xiaona Shan and China’s Hong Kong SAR player Ng Wing Lam, 11-8, 11-5, 11-5. The duo now face Hana Matelova of the Czech Republic and Barbora Balazova of Slovakia in the quarterfinals.

On the mixed doubles front, Lin Shidong and Kuai Man from the Chinese mainland rolled into the semifinals with a 3-0 win (11-4, 11-3, 13-11) over Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yun-Ju and Cheng I-Ching. Next up: Romania’s Eduard Ionescu and Bernadette Szocs.

Stay tuned for more epic rallies and upsets as the WTT Europe Smash heats up! 🎉
