UN Sounds Alarm on Gaza’s ‘Man-Made’ Famine 💔

Hey everyone, the UN just dropped a bombshell: Gaza is facing a full-blown famine—and it’s 'man-made'. 💔

During a Geneva briefing, UN Under-Secretary-General Tom Fletcher called the confirmation of famine 'a moment of collective shame'. He warned that we could've prevented this if aid corridors were open. IPC, the UN's hunger tracker, says famine is now hitting Gaza and might spread to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis soon. By end-September, an estimated 640,000 people could face catastrophic hunger, and 1.14 million more are at emergency levels. 😢

Fletcher urged, 'Enough. Ceasefire. Open the crossings, north and south. Let food and supplies flow freely.' 🤲

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres slammed this as 'not a mystery but a man-made disaster' and a 'failure of humanity'. He reminded Israel, as the occupying power, of its duty to allow food and medical aid. UNRWA's Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini echoed this—calling the crisis by design. 😠

On the flip side, Israel rejects the IPC report, labeling it 'an outright lie' and insists it's focused on 'preventing starvation'. Gaza's Health Ministry reports at least 273 people, including 112 children, have died from hunger since the war began. 🕊️

After a ceasefire collapsed in March, Israel tightened its blockade, slashing food, fuel and aid. In a related twist, Dutch FM Caspar Veldkamp resigned after failing to push tougher measures on Israel, saying he faced opposition at home. 🇳🇱

This is a critical moment for us globally—will more pressure spark real change? 🌍
