Egypt Sends Fresh Aid to Gaza Amid Devastating Famine

Egypt has dispatched a new humanitarian convoy to Gaza 🤝, resuming deliveries after a weekend closure at the Rafah crossing. State news agency MENA reports the convoy, organized by the Egyptian Red Crescent’s “Provision of Honor: From Egypt to Gaza” initiative, carried flour, legumes, bread, fuel, medicines and other essential supplies.

The aid convoy crossed from Rafah through Kerem Shalom for inspection by Israeli authorities before entering Gaza. This comes just days after the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a UN-backed food security body, declared famine in parts of Gaza, warning of catastrophic hunger and severe shortages of food, medicine and fuel 🚨.

On Friday, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry urged swift international action to push for a halt to the “man-made” disaster unfolding in Gaza. Meanwhile, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry says it has accounted for over 70% of all aid sent into Gaza since the war began, delivering more than 550,000 tonnes of supplies. Yet around 5,000 aid trucks remain stuck on the Egyptian side of Rafah.

Gaza’s health authorities report that during 22 months of military operations, 62,686 Palestinians have been killed and 157,951 injured. The hunger crisis has also led to 289 deaths from famine and malnutrition, including 115 children.

As young South and Southeast Asian readers scroll through their feeds, this latest convoy underscores the urgency of global solidarity and the power of coordinated relief efforts. It’s a reminder that every loaf of bread and liter of fuel can mean life for families facing extreme hardship.
