Gaza Ground Offensive: Tanks Roll into City as Airstrikes Continue

Israeli forces have pushed tanks into residential districts of Gaza City, ramping up a ground offensive under the cover of intense airstrikes and artillery fire. 🪖💥

Residents in Zeitoun, al-Sabra and Jabalia describe roaring armor and fire belts—strips of land deliberately set ablaze to block movement—forcing families to flee west and south in search of safety. 🔥🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gazas Civil Defense, reported that air and drone strikes hit homes, a school and tents for displaced people. At least 25 were killed and dozens injured since dawn.

High-rise buildings in key neighborhoods collapsed under bombardment, leaving many trapped. Overloaded hospitals, already low on supplies, are struggling to cope. There are no safe areas left, Basal warned. 🏥

The Hamas-run media office called the planned invasion a dangerous escalation and said an assault on Gaza Citys 1+ million residents would be a major war crime. 📢

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry urged decisive international action to halt what it called a deliberate policy of famine, blaming blockade and bombardment for the worsening hunger crisis. 🌾

On the other side, the Israeli military said re-entering Jabalia aims to degrade Hamas military capabilities and dismantle underground tunnel networks.

Hamas says its ready for a full truce and prisoner exchange, but accuses Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of blocking a deal despite Egyptian and Qatari mediation. 🤝

Since March 18, Gaza health authorities report 10,842 killed and 45,910 wounded from the intensified offensive, bringing the war tolls total since October 2023 to over 62,000 dead and 157,000 injured. Nearly 290 people have died of malnutrition amid severe food shortages.
