Minneapolis School Shooting: 2 Dead, 17 Injured

Minneapolis woke up to a heartbreaking tragedy at Annunciation Catholic School on Wednesday morning. Two kids1 an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old1 lost their lives, and 17 others were injured when a shooter opened fire during Mass in the school church.

Before 8:30 a.m., the armed attacker, carrying a rifle, a shotgun and a pistol, fired through the windows at children seated in the pews, Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara said. The shooter, a man in his 20s with no major criminal record, later died by suicide at the back of the church.

Of the 17 wounded, 14 are kids, two in critical condition. The school serves students from kindergarten through eighth grade.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz took to X to send support: "I'm praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence." President Donald Trump also ordered flags at half-staff, praising the FBI for their swift response.

This tragic incident is one of 286 mass shootings in the U.S. so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive (defined as four or more people shot or killed, not including the shooter). 💔🙏
