Six Killed in Jerusalem Bus Stop Attack

Early on Monday, two gunmen opened fire at a bus stop in Ramot Junction on the outskirts of Jerusalem, killing six people and wounding 11 others. 🚨

The ambulance service identified five of the victims as a 50-year-old man, a woman in her fifties and three men in their thirties. Six of the injured are in serious condition with gunshot wounds.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar confirmed a sixth victim later and said the attackers came from the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned "any targeting of Palestinian and Israeli civilians," while militant groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad praised the assailants as "resistance fighters." Neither group officially claimed responsibility.

Israeli police say the attackers arrived by car and opened fire before fleeing the scene. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that security forces are in hot pursuit of anyone involved.

This attack follows other clashes in the region, including a deadly 2024 shooting in Tel Aviv and another bus stop attack in Jerusalem in 2023. For many young people in South and Southeast Asia, it’s a stark reminder of how quickly violence can escalate and impact innocent lives.
