UN Chief’s Peace Call: Silence the Guns, Spark Hope ✌️🌍

Hey everyone, on September 21 we hit pause on the world’s drama to celebrate the International Day of Peace ✌️🌍. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calls on us to silence the guns, end suffering, and build bridges for a brighter future. This year’s theme – “Act Now for a Peaceful World” – is a call-to-action for every one of us.

Conflicts around the globe are tearing lives apart, stealing childhoods and throwing human dignity out the window. Guterres reminds us that peace and sustainable development (aka growth that cares for people and the planet) go hand in hand – in fact, nine out of the ten countries lagging most on development are also embroiled in conflict.

Here’s how we can act now for a peaceful world:

  • 🔥 Quell racism and dehumanization – it only pours fuel on the fires of war.
  • 🔍 Fight misinformation – double-check facts before you share.
  • 🤝 Build bridges – from real-life meetups to online collabs, unity sparks change.

Across South and Southeast Asia, festivals like Diwali, Eid and Songkran show us how coming together lights up our world. Let’s channel that spirit every day, not just once a year.

Because where there’s peace, there’s hope. And with hope, we can light up the world, one peaceful step at a time.
