Global Leaders Welcome First Phase of Gaza Ceasefire Deal

Here’s the lowdown on the historic first phase of the Gaza ceasefire deal 🕊️ After three days of intense talks in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh, Israel and Hamas are about to sign the agreement. The goal? An immediate end to fighting and steps towards freeing hostages.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi hailed the deal as “a triumph of the will for peace over the logic of war.” 🎉

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed Türkiye will join the mission to monitor the ceasefire on the ground and help rebuild Gaza. “God willing, we as Türkiye will take part in the mission force that will monitor the agreement’s implementation in the field,” he said.

Türkiye is also teaming up with Israel, the United States, Qatar and Egypt to find the remains of hostages whose whereabouts are still unknown.

The UAE welcomed the first phase of the ceasefire framework and urged all sides to stick to its terms.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on all stakeholders to seize this moment for a credible political path forward, pushing for a two-state solution that lets Israelis and Palestinians live side by side in peace and security.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said this is a “moment of profound relief” for hostages, their families, and Gaza’s civilians who have endured terrible hardships.

French President Emmanuel Macron stressed the ceasefire must mark the end of war and the start of a political process based on the two-state plan. France is ready to contribute and will discuss next steps with international partners in Paris.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul highlighted the need for peacekeeping forces, a clear legal framework, and safe conditions in Gaza. He also urged that humanitarian and medical aid flow in quickly to support reconstruction.

As this first phase kicks off, the world’s eyes are on efforts to ensure hostages walk free and Gaza’s communities begin to rebuild. Stay tuned for updates! 👀
