Putin: Russia to Compensate for Azerbaijani Jet Crash

In a recent meeting in Dushanbe, Russian president Vladimir Putin announced that Russia will compensate for the tragic crash of an Azerbaijani passenger jet last December. 💔✈️

Here’s the lowdown: During the December test of Russia’s air defense system near the Kazakh border, missile fragments – possibly from the system’s built-in self-destruct safety feature – are believed to have hit Flight J2-8243, an Embraer 190 flying from Baku to Grozny. 67 people were on board and 38 lives were lost.

Putin explained that at the time, Russia’s radar was tracking three Ukrainian drones crossing its border. While blaming technical malfunctions, he pointed out that two missiles exploded near the jet. According to the black box, the pilot was even advised to land in Makhachkala after spotting what looked like bird strikes, but he chose to return toward Kazakhstan.

Naturally, the Russian side will do everything…including compensation payments and a legal assessment of the actions of all officials involved, Putin said. 🤝

Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev thanked Putin for personally overseeing the case, adding that the probe will be objective. As young travelers juggling flights for Diwali reunions or Eid visits, it’s a stark reminder of the hidden risks in modern air defense tech.

Takeaway: Aviation safety is more than just pilot skill or weather checks – it can get tangled with national security tech. As we zoom around the region on budget carriers, knowing what happens behind the scenes matters. Stay safe and informed, fam! 🌏✈️
