Louvre Heist Mystery: 2 More Charged, $102M Royal Jewels Still Missing

Paris’ Louvre, the world’s iconic art haven, is at the center of a real-life heist thriller—think Ocean’s Eleven meets Dhoom!🎨💎 Social feeds from Mumbai to Manila can’t get enough of this saga.

Prosecutor Laure Beccuau just announced two new arrests: a 37-year-old man, charged with organized theft & criminal conspiracy, and a 38-year-old woman, charged with complicity. Both deny any wrongdoing and are in custody. Earlier in the week, three people were questioned but released without charges, bringing the total suspects formally charged to four. The first two arrested partly admitted their role.

The loot? Priceless royal jewelry valued at 88 million euros (about $102M) still hasn’t been found. Authorities fear the gems might have been smashed and smuggled—or even sold overseas. "There are several hypotheses, but I’m confident we’ll recover them," says Interior Minister Laurent Nunez.

Culture Minister Rachida Dati flagged a "structural underestimation" of security at the Louvre over the last 20 years. An emergency plan is on the way—think new anti-intrusion fences, beefed-up alarms, and next-level video surveillance before year-end.

Director Laurence des Cars offered her resignation but it was turned down. For now, the Louvre is tightening up its act—and the world is watching. 🔐👀
