Late Friday night (Nov 14), a massive explosion shook Nowgam police station in Srinagar, summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir. Local media report at least nine people lost their lives and around 30 were injured. 😢
Video clips trending online show fiery flames and thick black smoke pouring out as fire tenders and ambulances rushed to the scene. 🚒🚑
India Today says the blast happened while police and forensic experts were inspecting explosives sent from Faridabad (Haryana). These were part of an investigation into a car bomb attack near Delhi's Red Fort earlier this week that killed eight people on the spot – later reports put the death toll at 13 – and injured roughly 20.
Most of the victims at Nowgam station seem to be officers and forensic team members who were handling the materials. Authorities warn the numbers could rise as some remain in critical condition.
Police haven't released an official statement yet. Meanwhile, locals are anxiously awaiting updates and sending prayers to the injured. 🙏
