Arab League Condemns Sudan Drone Strike Killing 114 Civilians

On Thursday, December 4, a drone strike hit Kalogi city in Sudan's South Kordofan state, killing at least 114 people—including 63 children—and injuring about 71 others, local officials say. 😔

In a statement on December 7, the Cairo-based Arab League condemned the attack as a violation of international humanitarian law—the rules that protect civilians in war—and called it a war crime. They urged independent investigations and accountability to protect Sudan's unity.

Sudanese authorities blame the opposition Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for coordinating the strike in what was described as a civilian area. Neither group has responded to these claims.

Fighting between Sudan's army and the RSF, which began in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands and forced millions to flee their homes, creating one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. UN agencies warn that violence in Kordofan has escalated recently, causing widespread displacement and suffering.

As this crisis unfolds, civil society groups and young activists across South and Southeast Asia are sharing resources and calling for solidarity—reminding us that in our connected world, awareness can spark action. 🙏
