The seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) just wrapped up on Thursday in Nairobi, Kenya, bringing together about 6,000 delegates from governments, organisations, civil society and the private sector.
Under the theme "Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet," the assembly approved:
- 11 resolutions tackling the triple planetary crisis: climate change, biodiversity loss & pollution
- 3 decisions and a ministerial declaration emphasising fairness and inclusivity
- A new medium-term strategy for UNEP (2025–2029) and a two-year work programme and budget (2026–2027)
Key resolutions cover:
- Coral reef protection 🐠 (think Bali's reefs and the Andaman Sea)
- Responsible minerals & metals management ⛏️
- Chemicals & waste governance ♻️
- Sustainable application of artificial intelligence 🤖
- International cooperation on wildfire response 🔥

The ministerial declaration reaffirms global commitments to these issues, calling for inclusive decisions that involve communities at every level.
