Day 2 of Thailand-Cambodia Border Talks Sees Clashes Ease

Hey folks 👋, on Thursday, December 25, Thailand and Cambodia entered day two of their border negotiations in Chanthaburi, and theres a good vibe: clashes are down!

The secretariat meeting of the Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee kicked off at 9:00 AM local time. Around 30 Cambodian delegates joined, along with the Malaysian members of the ASEAN observer team.

In a press briefing, a Thai military rep noted that skirmishes have generally decreased, staying confined to small areas. Thats a relief after weeks of tension.

However, the situation remains serious on the ground:

  • Two Thai soldiers were injured by a landmine while de-mining near Ta Kwai Temple.
  • Another Cambodian civilian was killed, raising Cambodias civilian toll to 31.

The talks run through Friday, and if all goes well, Thailands and Cambodias defense ministers will meet this Saturday to discuss next steps. This could set the stage for more stability and cooperation in the region. 🌏

Stay tuned for updates as ASEAN members keep an eye on these talks. ✌️
