⚠️ Yesterday afternoon (Friday, December 26), chaos broke out at the Yokohama Rubber Company tyre factory in central Japan. Around 4:30 p.m., emergency services rushed in after reports of a violent attack inside the plant.
Authorities say a 38-year-old man wearing a gas mask and armed with a survival knife stabbed eight workers, while another seven were sprayed with a bleach-like liquid. All 15 victims were treated at nearby hospitals, with five stabbed victims in serious condition, according to the Fujisan Nanto Fire Department.
Shizuoka prefectural police arrested the suspect on suspicion of attempted murder at the scene. According to the Asahi Shimbun, investigators say he wore a gas mask and carried a survival knife during the attack. No official motive has been released yet.
Investigators are now examining the spray, believed to be bleach, and piecing together how the attack unfolded. The incident has put factory safety under the microscope, with worker groups urging companies to boost emergency protocols.
