On January 1, 2026, Khartoum launched the Khartoum Youth Sports Festival under the slogan "Together We Make Life" 🎉, marking Sudan's 70th independence anniversary and offering a rare glimpse of public life nearly three years into the civil war.
Organized by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, this is the first nationwide, large-scale event since fighting erupted in mid-April 2023. Youth federations, local groups and large crowds came together to revive sports and social activities.
Activities ranged from men's and women's races to junior and children's sprints 🏃♀️🤝. Fierce competitions on the track highlighted how sport can bridge divides, just like park runs unite friends in Mumbai or community jogs energize Jakarta.
For those following from abroad, clips are lighting up social media. Catch the action 🎥 on Instagram and TikTok using #TogetherWeMakeLife and #KhartoumYouthFest 📱🏃.
