🛑 Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council (STC) has slammed rumors of its disbanding as “fabricated and legally void.” The council says the claims were forced by Saudi authorities who detained its negotiating team in Riyadh.
According to the STC’s statement on X, its National Assembly, Consultative Council and General Secretariat held an emergency meeting in Aden to reject the fake announcement. “An unauthorized party under pressure has no legal or political authority to dissolve us,” the council stressed.
The STC emphasized it remains “fully legitimate and operational,” with its mandate coming straight from the southern Yemeni people since 2017. It’s also calling for the immediate and unconditional release of its detained members and urging the UN and international community to respect southern voices.
This denial follows state media reports that an STC delegation in Riyadh had announced self-dissolution and office closures. The Saudi-led coalition further claimed STC leader Aidarous al-Zubaidi left Yemen after skipping peace talks in Riyadh.
Backed by the UAE, the STC has been pushing for southern self-determination and eventual independence. Despite joining Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council in 2022, it continues to advocate for sovereignty, fueling ongoing debates over power-sharing and resource control.
Stay tuned for updates as the situation develops. 💡
