Fatah Calls for PA-Led Gaza Committee Amid Fragile Truce

Hey everyone 🌟, in the latest twist of Gaza’s political scene, Fatah has stepped up with a big ask: any new committee to run the Gaza Strip should be led by a minister from the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority (PA). This move, announced earlier this week by Fatah spokesperson Munther al-Hayek, is all about building international legitimacy and keeping global support strong for relief and reconstruction—think of it like a startup needing a clear CEO to win investors’ trust.

Hamas, which has governed Gaza’s institutions since 2007, shook things up over the weekend by dissolving its existing bodies and proposing an independent technocratic committee under a post-October 2025 ceasefire framework. They even submitted a list of 40 expert candidates to Egyptian authorities. But Fatah warns that if Hamas doesn’t cooperate, it could widen the split between Gaza and the West Bank even more.

On the other side, senior Hamas official Mohammad Nazzal accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the PA of undermining the ceasefire to gain political points at home. It’s a classic power play, and tensions are high as both sides jockey for influence and public trust.

Meanwhile, security incidents continue to stir the pot. An Israeli-backed Palestinian militia killed a senior Hamas police officer, Mahmoud Al-Astal, in Khan Younis earlier today. Hamas blames "Israeli collaborators," showing just how complex and risky the situation remains.

With lives and livelihoods on the line, young South and Southeast Asians watching from afar can’t help but wonder: will these political chess moves bring stability or fuel more division? 🤔 As the peace process moves forward (or stalls), the call for a united, legitimate leadership in Gaza has never been louder.
