On Monday, January 19, 2026, Hamas said it is "fully ready" to transfer administrative powers to a newly formed 15-member Palestinian technocratic committee tasked with governing Gaza in the post-war phase. The move aims for a smooth, orderly transition that safeguards public sector rights and keeps essential services running for civilians.
The committee officially launched its work on Friday, January 16, during a meeting in Cairo focused on Gaza’s "humanitarian file." It arrived in the Egyptian capital a day earlier, after a one-day delay due to reported Israeli obstruction.
Hamas framed this administrative shift as part of the second phase of the Gaza peace deal, tying it closely to its demand for a complete end to Israeli "aggression." The group emphasized Palestinians’ right to reconstruction that "preserves Palestinian national rights and sovereignty," reiterating the goal of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Despite the ceasefire that took effect in October 2025, violence persists in Gaza. Today, Gaza Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal reported that three Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire in separate incidents around Khan Younis and Rafah. Local sources also noted Israeli airstrikes east of Khan Younis, artillery shelling in eastern Gaza, and the demolition of residential homes. The Israeli side has yet to comment on these latest incidents.
According to Gaza-based health authorities, at least 465 Palestinians have lost their lives since the ceasefire began in October 2025, pushing the overall death toll since October 2023 to 71,550.
✌️ Stay tuned for more updates as Gaza navigates this crucial post-war phase.
